MeyGen’s pioneering tidal energy project is underway

The world’s first multi-turbine tidal stream energy project located off north-eastern Scotland in the Pentland Firth has commenced work to lay cables. Phase 1A consists of four turbines and hopes to deliver first power in 2016.

Cables will connect the turbines to an onshore power conversion centre which will be connected to the grid to export the power.

The MeyGen Project plans development of 398MW of capacity when fully constructed and is considered strategically and economically important to the marine energy sector.

The consortium MeyGen Ltd, formed in 2010, is majority owned by Atlantis Resources - a global technology development company.
